Earthy glam unveiled....

I am back from my romp through the wilderness of Wyoming and I have to say, as much as I embrace the glamorous diva that I am, the earthy-crunchy New England influenced side of me is pretty strong. For those of you that know me well you know that I have already given a name to this Kelley state of mind and it is called - Earthy Glam. Yes, the ins and outs of the Earthy Glam mindset will unfold as you continue to avidly read this blog. :) To get you started, an earthy glam gal may think something like the following:

There's something so romantic about the wilderness. At Yellowstone I was cut off from everything - no cell phone, no internet, no TVs, no distractions. Just my family and I and the stillness of nature (except when Bison were crossing our path during their daily commute - I swear it was like clockwork!) It's romantic for me in a couple of ways:

First, I try to imagine what life really was like before these industrial and digital coup d'ètats. When life was just a game of survival, communities were much smaller, and you spent your days making sure not to piss off any of your bison or bear neighbors. The question that kept running through my mind was, which system is more stressful to survive? We come up with all of this technological advancement to make our lives better, but all we accomplish is the shift from one mode of survival to another. Instead of chasing fish and bison for daily provision we chase the almighty dollar at the cost of throwing off the intended equilibrium of the natural world. As I pondered these questions the singer in me wanted to run off into the wilderness singing "Colors of the Wind" at the top of my lungs. (Ok, truthfully I always want to sing at the top of my lungs but that's besides the point.)

Second, there is something about sharing all of that natural wonder with someone you care about. Anytime I go camping or hiking I always end up having the best, most uninhibited conversations with people and I can picture spending a weekend or a honeymoon out yonder with that special someone. Let me paint the picture for you: making smores near the fire underneath the stars; canoeing down a crystal clear stream that weaves between tall and piney evergreen trees; spending time bathing in a shallow hot spring - the all natural hot tub....sigh...the possibilities are endless. Now those are dates to remember!

Yay Yellowstone!

First of all, congratulate me because I think I have figured out how to do this blog thing from my phone. Pause for the celebratory pat on the back. :) Please forgive any horrible grammatical errors I may commit, it's a small screen.

Second, I am on my way to Montana of all places to meet up with my family, pack up an RV, and romp through Yellowstone National Park for an entire week! This is the stuff adventures are made of. I try to have a major adventure at least once a year and I'm about a year and a half overdue (gotta pay the bills on my past few...yeeeah...)

This was the wild idea of my crazy mother, who, upon turning 60, decides that she needs to pack the year with adventures of all kinds. I believe the words out of her mouth were literally, "you'll have to scrape me off a mountain or tennis court when its my time.". Well alrightie then Mom, duly noted! Yes, I'm really just trying to keep up with her. Wish me luck, and if you have any recommendations on places to visit at Yellowstone, hit up the comments.

Peace and blessings!
